Les Cases d’Alcanar
Port of the small town of Alcanar, located in the rear. The southern part belongs to the fishermen; the other, to the local yacht club. Free anchors are available to visitors. Outstanding aspect: the club authorizes the free day anchorage on the inner side of the breakwater, so that the crew can take advantage of it or eat it. In addition, there are 20 restaurants, with a menu where seafood is the protagonist …
HOW TO ARRIVE
In the entrance area there are no drowsy waters, but at the beginning of the inner breakwater the depth is 2 m. From the entrance of the crane to the foot of the outer breakwater, it is 4 to 3 m. On catwalks A and B there are anchoring and pontoon lines.
EXCURSIONS
Important village of the VIIth centuries – II a. from C. on the northern slope of the Montsià, which was not discovered until the sixties.
Vinaròs
A pleasant harbor for a stop because of its proximity to the town.
A few minutes away and we are already on the seafront, in the north of the port, with many restaurants. Over the last few months, the port basin has been extended, in anticipation of the commissioning of a natural gas platform at some 10 nm of the coast (Castor UGS platform, 40 ° 23.7 ‘N 000 ° 42.5 ‘E4. Mo (U) W 15s). However, the project is stopped, after drilling causing earthquakes on the coast. This expansion has benefited mainly the old naval industry, and it is who will be in charge of continuing it.
HOW TO ARRIVE
To the north of Vinaròs there is an area of cliffs, with small beaches and simpler urbanizations. The tallest buildings indicate where the town is. When you enter the harbor, you will find depths of 6 m and more, which are gradually reduced.
EXCURSIONS
Fortified city of Morella
Excursion to the interior of the country. Inside the fortifications there is a castle.
Benicarló
Average city, with marina for 250 sport boats and reserved area for the larger fishing boats. This port is similar to a commercial one: the marina, located behind it, is virtually “invisible”. Peñíscola, the old fortified papal city, erected on an apex about 3.5 nm little in the south, is already well visible. Next to it there is a long busy beach, surrounded by urbanizations.
HOW TO ARRIVE
At the entrance, about 4 m deep, decreasing and without submersible water.
Peñíscola
The old fortified city, and more specifically the southern beaches, occupy second place among the populations of the Mediterranean coast of Spain, in the number of visitors, behind Benidorm. Regarding national tourism, however, Peñíscola is the first. Unfortunately, the only possibility is to take the anchor in front of the town and land with the boat, because the commercial port is the feudo of the fishermen. It is also known as a papal city, because Pere de Luna (also called Papa Luna), when he was the anti-Pope Benedict XIII, abandoned the French city of Avignon in 1411 and embarked towards Peñíscola.
HOW TO ARRIVE
Peñíscola is well visible both from the south and from the north, with the old city located on an isthmus in the sea, seated on a rocky 60 m high. In the entrance area there are no dangerous dams, but to the west of the inner breakwater, where the yachts can anchor, the depth is 2 m or less. At the bottom of the breakwater, to the entrance to the harbor, the depth is approximately 6 to 4m. In some navigation charts, there is a low beacon, east of the castle, which points to the end of an ancient breakwater, but in 2016 it was no longer there.
EXCURSIONS
A visit to the old medieval city, on the rocky rock, is indispensable. It is necessary to go to the castle, that the pope Luna ordered to reconstruct for his personal use.
The Bufador, one of the attractions of the area, is at the confluence of the outer breakwater with the fortifications of the city. With gentle wind, you can feel the sea through its natural bond with the rock; If there is a strong maror, throw it over with violence.
Les Fonts
Port of the tourist town of Alcossebre, less than 30 nm from the protected archipelago of Columbretes. There is only animation in the summer, when many restaurants open throughout the marina. To the northeast of the marina, sandy beaches. The marina is suitable for yachts up to 2.5 meters in depth.
HOW TO ARRIVE
There is a white lighthouse, quite apparent, at 1 nm south of the marina, Fl (4) 18s.
The nautical club building, also white and candle-shaped, is a good point of reference, since the breakwater is not visible. At night, it’s hard to recognize the lighting, with that of the town behind.
Depth of 3 at the entrance.
EXCURSIONS
Dive in the Columbretes Islands. In the short term, preferably with a diving school; for example, Barracuda, which is based in the port.
