La Ràpita (includes Port del Alfacs)
Located approximately halfway between Barcelona and Valencia, it enjoys a natural protected location in the southern lagoon of the Delta, Port dels Alfacs.
How to get there
Approximately 2 nm southwest of la Ràpita is the concrete entrance to the port. The lateral beacons mark a channel 7 meters deep.
Although the water is deep enough for recreational boats beyond the row of buoys whose depth almost always guarantees between 3 and 4 meters.
How to moor
It has two marinas, the la Ràpita Marina – MDL Marinas, both marinas with a service station. Also a shipyard in the MDL Marina and a jetty where cruise ships up to 210 meters long and a draft of 6 meters can moor.
It brings together boat owners from 25 nations.
Anchoring
The water depth for anchoring is between 4 and 2 meters. You can anchor in the bay, always paying attention to the depth gauge and maneuvering slowly. You can also tie up at Avi Agustin’s mussel raft for tasting oysters and mussels.
Activities
If you take a walk through the center of la Ràpita, visit the musclarium, Or you can simply relax and anchor to enjoy bird watching, where it is very common to see flamingos in the area, among others.
You can also take a walk along the lonely beach of Els Eucaliptus that connects with El Trabucador.
Very typical of the area is the Route of the Mussel and Oyster. It departs from the port at noon on weekends and from Monday to Friday during the high season.
Excursions are also organized in the heart of the delta and you can even visit Ulldecona, where 14 caves and about 380 paintings have been discovered.
Around the Ebro Delta
The Ebro River itself is not navigable by sailboat, but it is fantastic to be able to sail around the Ebro Delta.
Navigation
Care must be taken when sailing because the eastern end of the delta is formed by a large sandbank, whose position naturally varies. Therefore, nautical charts should not be taken literally.
A north cardinal buoy to the northwest of the Cape Tortosa lighthouse marks the sands at the mouth of the Ebro. Beyond that, there are no more buoys and the depth is uncertain.
Activities
The mouth of the Ebro has shaped a coastline that combines dunes and extensive beaches.
The Ebro Delta covers an area of more than 32,000 hectares. Landscapes with extensive rice fields predominate in the interior areas of the delta.
In the northern area of the coastal stretch, the desert-like beaches of El Fangar, La Marquesa, and Riumar stand out.
In the south, we find the large sandbanks of the beaches of Migjorn, L’Alfacada, and El Serrallo, which has a section for nudism as it is sheltered by bushy vegetation.
Along the Ebro, very close to the sea, in the lower stretch of the Ebro, kayaking has been consolidated as a popular activity.
You can also take a walk along the river on the Vía Verde de la Terra Alta and del Baix Ebre. A section of the old railway line that connects Tortosa and Arnes has been enabled for this purpose.
L’Ampolla (including Bahía del Fangar)
In L’Ampolla, the marina is adjacent to the town.
How to get there
When sailing towards the Delta, an indicator that we are approaching L’Ampolla is the slightly greenish color of the water.
How to moor
The Club Nàutic L’Ampolla has 500 berths for recreational boats. There is also a space reserved for visitors. It has a service station and technical services.
The depth at the inner dock and four gangways is 3-2 m, and further away it decreases to 1.5 m.
Anchoring
The anchorage areas are located:
1 In front of the inner dock.
2 In the bay north of the Ebro Delta (El Fangar)
3 Between Cape Roig and Punta Figuera
4 In front of the small island L’Illot.
Activities
In L’Ampolla, you can visit the Ecomuseu and the bird museum, as well as take a walk through the Casa de Fusta.
It has a wide variety of restaurants along the street around it.
The sandy beaches are located between reddish cliffs past Cape Cap Roig.
Highly recommended to walk or bike around Bassa de les Olles, the smallest lagoon in the Ebro Delta.
The northern part of the Ebro Delta lagoon (Puerto del Fangar) is home to oyster farms and mussel farms where tastings are offered. You can sail there with your own sailboat or go with the organized boat from Mirador Badia.
L’Atmetlla de Mar
L’Ametlla de Mar, located to the north of the Ebro coastline, is a typical Mediterranean fishing village, popular for its unspoiled coves and bluefin tuna.
How to get there
There are no shallow waters. A large green light is visible from distant signals on the outer pier. Depths range between 4m and 2.5m.
Early in the morning and in the evening, be careful with the entry and exit of fishermen.
To the south of the port is a fish farm, which is indicated by yellow buoys.
How to moor
The Club Nàutic L’Ametlla de Mar harbors a large fishing fleet, as well as space for 255 boats and moorings for visitors. It has a fuel station and technical services.
Activities
The largest beaches are Santa Llúcia and Morro de Gos, with fine stones.
You will find semi-wild corners in the coves of El Pont de l’Àliga, Moros and La Buena, which are surrounded by semi-wild corners.
Hiking enthusiasts highly recommend the Camí de Ronda, the GR-92, to discover the Terres de l’Ebre coastline on foot. From the town of L’Ametlla, you can head south towards L’Ampolla, or walk north towards the Almadrava.
It is recommended to take a walk around the port and the old town of La Cala, and also visit the fish market.
Locally caught bluefin tuna appears on the menus of all the local restaurants. Most of the restaurants are located at the end of the port.
Port Marina Sant Jordi
With over 2km of coastline, in the Gulf of Sant Jordi, calm, surrounded by charming coves that can be reached on foot, is the Marina.
How to get there
There are no shallow waters at the entrance to the port, the water depth is 3.5m at the entrance, 2.8m at the moorings and can reach 1.5m in the inner area.
How to moor
Sant Jordi has a small marina built in a bay, located in a wooded and family area.
The marina, with 140 available spaces with pontoons for boats between 6 and 15m in length, is operated by Port Calafat, where the service station and travel lift are located.
There is a restaurant with a pool inside the port.
Anchoring
In the bay in front of the port, next to a separate bathing area and access to the beach.
Activities
From the port, you can access the coves on foot, with crystal clear and very calm water.
Magnificent cliffs and fine sand coves where you can enjoy any water sport, sailing, diving, fishing, etc.
Little nightlife, family-oriented development.
Benicarló
The beaches lead to a medieval historic center with a great variety of stately houses.
Benicarló is a peaceful town, a destination for sun and beach.
How to get there
Upon entering the port, it seems to be commercial, the marina is located behind, so it is not visible at first sight.
How to moor
It has moorings for 250 boats, a section reserved for larger fishing boats and it has a service station and technical service.
The depth is around 4 m at the entrance with decreasing depth.
Anchoring
Depending on the wind direction, it is possible to anchor along the sandy beaches between Benicarló and Peñíscola.
Activities
A stroll through the pedestrian streets near the sea and the marina is very pleasant.
Among the monuments are the church of San Bartolomé, the city museum of Benicarló (MUCBE), the hermitage of Cristo del Mar, and the hermitage of San Gregorio.
It also has numerous restaurants and bars in the port area. It produces a reputed artichoke with a protected designation of origin.
And if you have time, visit the Iberian Settlement of Puig de la Nau and the Iberian Settlement of La Tossa.
Peñíscola
Peñíscola, also known as the Papal city, has become an idyllic destination for those looking to combine beach tourism with cultural visits in a natural setting.
How to get there
When arriving by boat, it is clearly visible from the south and the north, as it is located 60 meters from a rocky promontory.
Mooring
There is no need to worry about shallow dangerous waters at the entrance, although since all the moorings inside the pier are occupied, an alternative to anchoring is to request permission to moor next to a fishing boat.
However, the refueling station is reserved only for fishermen.
Anchoring
Good sandy anchorages with a depth of about 2 meters both to the north and south of Peñíscola, both in front of a large separate bathing area.
Activities
A walk through the medieval old town is a must, as well as entering the castle and visiting the lighthouse.
The “Bufador” is one of the main attractions. The Museum of the Sea, located on the Baluarte del Príncipe, in the old Les Costures building, is also recommended.
Enjoy the delicious cuisine, which is dominated by rice dishes, seafood, and fresh fish.
And of course, enjoy the beaches located at the foot of the Castle or hiking and biking in the Sierra de Irta Park.
Sierra Irta
Perfect location for hiking enthusiasts, sun-seekers, and Mediterranean flora and fauna. The Serra d’Irta Natural Marine Reserve and Natural Park extends over more than 8 miles southwest of Peñíscola.
How to get there
You can reach it by sea as well as start walking along the trails from nearby villages.
Mooring
4 fields of 24 buoys have been created to protect the Posidonia meadows, so anchoring is prohibited.
The first field is located 3 nm from Peñiscola and consists of nine white buoys. The water depth is 4.5 m.
The other three fields are about 2.5 nm from Las Fuentes and consist of nine, eight, and six buoys. The depth is relatively constant, between 5 and 4 m.
Reservations are not possible, although they are not usually necessary. The buoys are free.
Activities
In addition to all kinds of coves and beaches combining sea and mountain scenery, there are trails to walk between coves and cliffs.
The complete route is about 12 kilometers of virgin Mediterranean coast with heights of almost 600 meters above sea level. The Badum Tower, of Muslim origin, is the highest point, with a 572m cliff above sea level.
Diving and snorkeling are also done in the area, as well as kayaking and paddle surfing.
Alcossebre
It is during the summer months that Alcossebre comes to life with all the restaurants open along the marina. Although it has a climate and geography that allow for a wide range of sports and cultural activities throughout the year.
How to get there
To the south of the marina is the clearly visible white lighthouse (Fl (4) 18s).
To identify the entrance to the Fuentes marina, the white building of the sailing club in the shape of a sail is a good reference, as the pier is not as easily distinguished.
How to moor
With a depth of 3 m at the entrance, it has 274 berths for boats up to 20m in length, with a draft of 2.5m.
Anchoring
If the wind allows, it is recommended to anchor to the south of the marina, with a sandy bottom.
To the north, the Sierra de Irta is also a good place to anchor thanks to the buoy fields.
Activities
Located at the foot of the Sierra de Irta, it has 11 km of beaches, including the Playa de las Fuentes, with freshwater springs that emerge from the sand.
In addition to the sandy beaches, there are cycling routes for mountain biking, as well as hiking.
It has a rich cultural and monumental heritage such as the Templar Castle of Xivert, La Torre Ebrí, El Trigo del Rey or the Calvary Hermitage. Alcalá de Sivert offers a history program with guided tours.
In addition, many people come to Alcossebre to go diving in the Columbretes Islands.
Columbretes Islands
One of the most ecologically interesting island spaces in the Mediterranean, it is also a natural reserve and marine reserve.
A mecca for diving, the Columbretes Islands are made up of 4 groups of islets and volcanic reefs settled on a bottom of 80 meters.
How to get there
Located just 28 miles from Alcossebre and 60 miles from the Balearic Islands, you can reach the islands by organized excursion boat or with your own boat.
Anchoring
Anchoring is not allowed, so 13 buoys have been set up on Illa Grossa, 1 on the Islet of La Ferrera and 2 on the Islet of La Foradada.
Reservations are not possible and the buoys are free on a first-come, first-served basis. Only the buoys on Illa Grossa can be used for overnight stays, imagine how many stars can be seen without light pollution.
Activities
A visit of approximately one to two hours can be made only to Illa Grossa, in small groups accompanied by guards or monitors. It is worth going up to the lighthouse and having a panoramic view from the top of the set of islands.
The main activity on the Columbretes Islands is diving. However, diving can only be done if you have certification and have made a minimum of 25 dives.
